Portable Linear Accelerator for Intra-Operative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOeRT)
Intra-Operative Radiation Therapy (IORT) in its broadest sense refers to the delivery of irradiation at the time of an operation, as an attempt to achieve higher effective doses of irradiation whilst dose-limiting structures are surgically displaced, especially with the usage of electron beams (IOeRT).
LIAC HWL is the most advanced electron linear accelerator from SIT. It is a very lightweight, portable accelerator (570 kg), with the ability to be transported between different Operating Rooms. LIAC HWL does not require additional shielding, therefore having the ability to be used in most Operating Rooms in the Hospital.
With LIAC HWL, high dose rate treatments happen in less than 2 minutes. The appropriate selection of energy and applicator allows for the treatment of the volume of interest with 3,2 cm at 90% isodose. Besides that, a radioprotection disc is placed for total protection of organs at risk for breast treatments.
